The National Office of F&A provides leadership and oversight and develops policy,
procedures, and budgets for the fire and aviation program. The National Interagency Fire
Center (NIFC) is part of the national organization and houses the support operations that
are an inherent part of the BLM and interagency fire management programs. BLM is the host
agency at NIFC and plays a major role at the center. The NIFC Administrator reports to the
BLM Director of Fire and Aviation and is responsible for the operation of the fire center,
with direction from the NIFC Board of Directors. The other partner agencies at NIFC are:
National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Bureau of Indian Affairs for the
Department of the Interior; Forest Service for the Department of Agriculture; and National
Weather Service for the Department of Commerce. The Department of Interior's Office of
Aircraft Services is also located at NIFC.
Further details on these services can be obtained
from the BLM fire
web site.
