National Park Service

The NPS Fire Management Program Center located at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, has a mission "to review and develop policy and standards and to provide program oversight for the structural and wildland fire management and aviation safety programs of the National Park Service."

The Fire Management Program Center (FMPC), established in 1973, as the Branch of Fire and Aviation Management and recently renamed under the NPS reorganization in 1995, reports to the Associate for Park Operations and Education in the Ranger Activities Division. The FMPC Director is Douglas Erskine.

The FMPC interfaces with other Department of the Interior Bureaus and the USDA Forest Service through the National Interagency Fire Center for national fire management coordination. The FMPC provides technical support, budget formulation and execution, develops policy and standards recommendations, and coordinates activities with cooperating agencies for the NPS wildland and structural fire management programs.

The Fire Management Program Center staff communicates through System Support Office's (SSO's), "cluster" leadership and directly with parks depending on the nature of the communication and desires of the field.

Further details on these services can be obtained from the NPS fire web site.
