NWCG Chairperson

The chair calls and conducts meetings, establishes subgroups, submits NWCG recommendations to member agencies and other entities for action, and signs NWCG correspondence. In addition, the chair represents NWCG at Fire Executive Council meetings, National Association of State Foresters Fire Committee meetings, and other meetings and events as appropriate.

To facilitate the daily business of the NWCG, the chair will be elected from primary membership based in Boise, Idaho. A six month transition period between chairs will help ensure a seamless transition.

Beginning in October, following election, the chair-elect will shadow the chair for three months. Beginning with the new term in January, the past chair will serve as an advisor to the new chair for three months.

NWCG Vice Chairperson

The vice chair is responsible for serving as chair in the chair's absence and for performing delegated duties. When the chair is absent from a meeting or incapacitated, the vice chair assumes the full authority and responsibility of the chair. The vice chair may be elected from primary membership not based in Boise, Idaho, provided travel is not restricted.
