The NFDRS 2016 Models

The National Fire Danger Rating System -version 2016 (NFDRS2016) brings together a series of mathematical models that produce an array of outputs which represent fire danger across the landscape for the purpose of giving land managers a tool to aid in tactical and strategic decision making.

The NFDRS2016 requires the following data sources in order to generate meaningful analysis outputs:

  1. Weather Data
  2. Fire Occurrence Data
  3. Weather Station Metadata

The NFDRS2016 uses the following models to generate meaningful outputs:

  1. The Nelson model
  2. The Growing Season Index (GSI)
  3. Five Fuel Models
