Incident Command System

Training in the Incident Command System (ICS) is a key first step towards understanding how GIS fits in ICS and how various positions function together as a team on an incident. The following two classes should be taken before proceeding with the rest of the GISS Introductory Class.

  1. IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-100 - this course introduces the Incident Command System and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. 3 hour web course.
  2. IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction - NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents. 3 hour web course.
