Cause Classification: Broad classification of the reason the fire occurred – identified as human, natural or undetermined.

General Cause: Agency or circumstance which started a fire or set the stage for its occurrence.

Specific Cause: A further categorization of each General Cause to indicate more specifically the agency or circumstance which started a fire or set the stage for its occurrence.

Specific Cause Detail: More specific information about the cause or factors contributing to the ignition.

Age Category: Discriminates between children (0-12), adolescents (13-17), and adults (18+).

Prohibited: Allows identification of an activity which is unlawful or otherwise prohibited (burn ban, unpermitted, etc.) by local authorities.

Activity Group: Further refines information for prevention programs for targeted messaging.
