COVID-19 and Refurbishment Guidelines
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, additional safety measures and guidelines will have an effect on the handling of items being returned to the cache. Please follow CDC guidelines and local safety protocols where applicable. Although standard cleaning and refurbishment practices outlined in the NWCG Standards for Fire Equipment Storage and Refurbishing, PMS 448, should mitigate most contagions, any additional guidelines and procedures directed by regional or local safety standards should be followed. Most common soaps, disinfectants, and sanitizers should have little to no effect on the materials listed in the PMS 448, but refer to the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) of each for further information. Please reference the NWCG Coronavirus webpage, and the attached Risk Assessments provided by the National Interagency Support Caches (NISC) when developing a safety plan for your facilities during refurbishment.
