Air Tactical Group Supervisor

ATGS Position Description: The Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) reports to the Air Operations Branch Director on Type 1 and Type 2 incidents and to the Incident Commander or Operations on initial attack or Type 3 incidents. The ATGS is responsible for managing the incident airspace and coordinating the fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft operations over an incident. (See NWCG Interagency Aerial Supervision Guide, PMS 505. Note: Aerial Supervision Modules (ASM) can function as an ATGS.)

Required Experience

  • Satisfactory performance as a Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS)
  • AND Completion and Certification of NWCG Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) Position Task Book, PMS 311-18

OR

  • Satisfactory performance as an Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3)
  • AND Completion and Certification of NWCG Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) Position Task Book, PMS 311-18

Physical Fitness Level: None Required

Position does not require a physical fitness level.

  • None

ATGS Maintains Currency For These Positions

  • Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS)
  • Helicopter Coordinator (HLCO)
  • Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3)
  • Incident Commander Type 4 (ICT4)

Other Training Which Supports Development Of Knowledge And Skills

This is an inherently wildland fire position. All-hazards Air Tactical Group Supervisors need to meet the wildland fire position qualification requirements. Rationale for not endorsing is based on prerequisite experience (e.g., complex airspace coordination with incident aircraft, DIVS prerequisite qualification).
