Course Description

This ONLINE self-directed refresher training provides qualified personnel with the knowledge, skills, and current operational guidance necessary to safely and effectively support UAS operations across a variety of incident environments.
The course shall focus on lessons learned from previous incident responses, including review of SAFECOMs, trends in incident UAS employment, and updated policy. Additional topics such as emerging technology, data processing, and remote pilot competency shall be addressed as required.
Course content and updates shall be developed, reviewed, and approved by the Interagency Fire UAS Subcommittee (IFUASS) to ensure continued alignment with interagency policy, doctrine, and operational requirements.

Course Objective

Review and refresh the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to Plan, coordinate, and execute UAS missions in support of incident objectives.

RMC Memorandum 26-02: SAFENET Modernization and SafeNetX Launch

The Risk Management Committee (RMC) is pleased to announce the launch of SafeNetX, the modernized safety reporting system now available to the wildland fire community. Effective June 15, 2026, SafeNetX enables reporting of unsafe, unhealthy, near-miss, and high-risk operations across wildland fire, all-hazard incidents, training, and related work environments.

SafeNetX is the result of a multi-agency modernization effort led by RMC, which began evaluating improvements to the legacy SAFENET system in 2021. To learn more, read the full RMC memorandum in the links provided.
