S-236, Heavy Equipment Boss (Single Resource) (ILT)

Course Description

This is a skill course designed to meet the training needs of a Heavy Equipment Boss, Single Resource (HEQB) on an incident as outlined in the NIMS: Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide, PMS 310-1, and the position task book developed for the position. Primary considerations are tactical use and safety precautions required to establish and maintain an effective dozer operation. A field exercise is required as part of the course.

Course Objectives

Identify the process of preparing for an all-hazard assignment.

Qualified as Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1).

Special Delivery Considerations

These materials are needed above and beyond the usual items (pens, paper, flip charts, markers, etc.).
Monitor large enough to be seen by entire class.
Three pieces of Heavy Equipment and a Mechanic on hand if possible available for field day inspection process.

The proposed definition is: Practical guidance provided for incident personnel in a manner in which incident objectives can be achieved while reducing impacts to identified resources across the landscape. RPMs are informed by, but not restricted to, Minimum Impact Strategies and Tactics (MIST).
