Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The NIMS Integration Subcommittee (NISC) provides national leadership related to the National Incident Management System (NIMS) to enable interoperability within the wildland fire community. The NISC is responsible for maintenance of all NWCG products and standards delegated to them within their content area.

Body

Primary Objectives

  • Develop, review, and maintain standards that are accurate, current, and aligned with the NWCG mission within the NIMS integration content area as delegated by the Qualifications Management Committee (QMC).
  • Provide guidance and expertise to the NWCG regarding the integration of NIMS, the National Preparedness System, and all‑hazards concepts, standards, and requirements into the development and implementation of NWCG standards, publications, incident positions, and training courses.
  • Engage in effective coordination and communication among subcommittees and stakeholders to promote cross‑functional collaboration, prevent duplication of effort, and support integrated standards development.
  • Assist the QMC as requested to ensure all standards, publications, and any other work produced by the NISC are fully vetted for alignment across the NWCG primary agencies.
  • Identify emerging issues within the committee’s area of expertise and elevate them to the QMC with appropriate context and recommendations.

NWCG Position Endorsements

The NWCG Executive Board has developed NWCG position endorsements for the 45 common positions shared with National Incident Management System (NIMS) National Qualification System (NQS). A position endorsement is defined as “Documentation validating specific knowledge, skills, and abilities that an [Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)] establishes beyond the minimum qualifications for a given position.” Endorsements allow utilizing NQS all-hazards qualified resources on wildland fire incidents. This process is not designed to review specific NWCG positions for use in all-hazards incidents.

See analysis process for additional information regarding the process used during the analysis.

Questions?
Please contact: Risk Management Committee

The Risk Management Committee (RMC) is pleased to announce the launch of SafeNetX, the modernized safety reporting system now available to the wildland fire community. Effective June 15, 2026, SafeNetX enables reporting of unsafe, unhealthy, near-miss, and high-risk operations across wildland fire, all-hazard incidents, training, and related work environments.

SafeNetX is the result of a multi-agency modernization effort led by RMC, which began evaluating improvements to the legacy SAFENET system in 2021. To learn more, read the full RMC memorandum in the links provided.
