Felling Boss, Single Resource

The Felling Boss leads a felling team and is responsible for their safety on wildland fire incidents. FELB Position Description:  The FELB supervises assigned felling resources and reports to a Strike Team/Task Force Leader or other assigned supervisor. The FELB works in the Operations functional area.

  • Satisfactory performance as a Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1)
  • AND Completion and Certification of NWCG Felling Boss, Single Resource (FELB) Position Task Book, PMS 311-13

Physical Fitness Level: Arduous

Duties involve fieldwork requiring physical performance calling for above-average endurance and superior conditioning. These duties may include an occasional demand for extraordinarily strenuous activities in emergencies under adverse environmental conditions and over extended periods of time. Requirements include running, walking, climbing, jumping, twisting, bending, and lifting more than 50 pounds; the pace of work typically is set by the emergency situation.

  • Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3)
  • Incident Commander Type 4 (ICT4)
  • Operations Section Chief Type 3, Wildland Fire (OPS3)
  • Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 1 (RXB1)
  • Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2)
  • Safety Officer, Line (SOFR)
  • Safety Officer Field (SOFF)
  • Single Resource Boss including (CRWB, ENGB, FIRB, HMGB, HEQB)
  • Task Force Leader (TFLD)
